This policy explains how Palesa's Bakes & Treats collects, uses and protects your personal information. We handle your information the way the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) requires. We are the “responsible party”, which means we are the ones in charge of the information you give us, and Palesa looks after it.
What we collect
- Your name, email address, phone number and delivery address when you place an order or make an account.
- Your order details: what you bought, when, and how you paid. We never see or keep your full card number. Card payments are handled by Paystack, through the payment service of GFlow, the company that built and looks after this website.
- What you tell us in our forms: custom cake enquiries, edible printing enquiries, class waiting list sign-ups and contact messages, including any photos you send us.
- Basic visit information, such as which pages are visited, so we can see what is useful. We use a simple visit counter on our own website, and we do not use it to work out who you are.
- Messages you send us on WhatsApp, if you choose to chat with us there.
Why we use it
- To make, pack, deliver and charge for your order, and to keep you informed about it.
- To answer your questions and enquiries.
- To tell you when a baking class you asked about opens for booking.
- To keep our records, as the law requires.
- To keep this website safe and working.
We do not sell your information. We do not send marketing emails unless you asked for them, and you can ask us to stop at any time.
Who we share it with
Only the people who need it to serve you: Paystack and GFlow to take your card payment, a courier or driver to deliver your order, and the company that hosts this website and our email. We ask everyone who handles it for us to use it only for that job. We share it with anyone else only if the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
We keep order records for as long as the law requires us to keep business and tax records. Enquiries and waiting list details are kept only as long as they are useful to you and us, and then deleted.
Chatting to us on WhatsApp
If you message us on WhatsApp, your messages are stored on WhatsApp’s own systems, which can be outside South Africa, under their rules.
Children
Our shop is for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to order for you.
How we protect it
This website uses a secure connection (https). Access to customer information is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so if we ever learn that your information has been exposed, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as the law requires.
Your rights
You may ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. You may also object to us using it, or ask us to stop sending you messages. Write to info@palesasbakeryandretail.co.za and we will reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm who you are first.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
